When does the 'descend' button stop working?

The 'descend' button only functions in the hub area. If it appears grayed out there, it indicates a bug. Even if the button is orange but unclickable with the mouse, you can still use keyboard controls (WASD and Z/Enter) to proceed.

Stash the battery in the tutorial area and take it to the next room for the tutorial to continue.

Toybox Descend Known Bugs

After completing the demo and descending again, the game becomes laggy and the character moves incredibly fast.
Cannot lower the elevator in the hub area; interaction buttons do not work. Cursor is invisible.
In the tutorial, after picking up the battery and being asked to descend, the button remains grey despite various attempts to proceed (restarting game/PC, waiting). Pressing Escape, giving up, then returning to hub results in untextured areas outside the elevator.
Workaround: Pressing Escape, selecting 'Give Up', then returning to the hub allows descent but causes untextured areas outside the elevator.
